PDE5 inhibitors
The therapy must be individually tailored
The fairly accurate and reliable diagnostic methods make it possible nowadays one individual to the similar treatment of erectile dysfunction. Depending on the diagnosis, the physician and his patient several options available, so this also to the wishes and needs of the individual (and his partner) can be adjusted.

By relaxing the smooth muscle cells, blood can flow into the corpora cavernosa
The focus of drug treatment are substances that cause relaxation of smooth muscle in the corpora cavernosa and cause an erection (erectile see: How does that). This includes the group of phosphodiesterase (PDE5) inhibitors.

The heart is not affected by PDE5 inhibitors
Men with risk by hypertension, obesity, dyslipidemia, smoking and diabetes should try to reduce these risks, even when observed with the intake of PDE5 inhibitors after exclusion of relevant diseases no increased heart risk. The risk reduction in many cases can lead to an improved response of the PDE5 inhibitors.

Not everyone can take PDE5 inhibitors
PDE5 inhibitors should not be used for the following disorders:

after recent heart attack or stroke
    with severe heart rhythm disturbances
    with unstable angina pectoris
    in severe heart failure
with uncontrolled high blood pressure (hypertension)

Nitrates and PDE5 inhibitors do not together
PDE5 inhibitors should not be coadministered with nitrates. Nitrates dilate blood vessels and are prescribed for angina pectoris as an emergency drug. Taken together are PDE5 inhibitors and nitrates are mutually reinforcing in their effects. As a result, the cycle can reduce dangerous. Anyone who is unsure whether he has prescribed nitrates should seek advice before taking PDE5 inhibitors by his doctor.
