Improper diet, high blood lipids and hypertension, especially favoring the development of erectile dysfunction
There are a number of general risk factors that favor the emergence of a disposition shown to erectile dysfunction, and often occur in association with erectile dysfunction. Foremost of these risk factors are poor diet and searches related harm. Improper diet, leads to particularly high-fat food to be overweight (obesity) or to hyperlipidemia. Hyperlipidemia, high blood fat levels are often associated with high blood pressure. These two factors are found in about half of the organic diseases.

Atherosclerosis affects not only the blood vessels of the heart
Another related development is in circulatory disorders due to atherosclerosis. Atherosclerotic changes in the blood vessels are favored by elevated blood lipids, as well as by diabetes mellitus, alcohol and nicotine. Other drugs favor an erectile dysfunction, although this is less frequently observed. Alcohol is next to other damaging effects. It can lead to neurological changes such as disruption of the hormonal axis.

Organic causes take significantly with age
The circulatory disturbances are also felt in the major blood vessels for the erection of the penis (erectile see: How does it work). Typically seen in atherosclerotic changes over the years a decreasing ability to have erections. This is the reason that a man who comes to the doctor with erectile dysfunction, a thorough physical examination should be performed. Often there are accompanying diseases such as cardio-vascular diseases. Conversely, men suffer with cardiovascular disease often from erectile dysfunction.
