Transurethral needle ablation of the prostate

The fabric can be heated to 100 degrees
In the transurethral needle ablation (TUNA) are fine needle antennas that are placed over the urethra in the tissue, given radio frequency waves. These heat the tissue in a narrowly circumscribed area of up to 100 degrees. This excess tissue is removed and brought to die (= ablation ablation). The exact number and depth of needle pricks to determine the size of the prostate is first detected by ultrasound.

Application without anesthesia and outpatient
TUNA is a procedure that can be used and outpatient without anesthesia. Complications are rare. However, it appears at the beginning of treatment initially a temporary worsening of symptoms. After that is a slow improvement. Also, there may possibly be necessary to derive the urine after treatment with a catheter.

Alternative for high-risk patients
The success of therapy is given as about 50 to 80 percent improvement in symptoms. The results are compared to the transurethral resection (TURP), although lower, yet the TUNA is an alternative to drug treatment and TURP if there is only a slight enlargement of the prostate. Even with inoperable high-risk patients, the TUNA is an alternative.
