Transurethral dilatation for BPH surgery

Bookmark and Share
A search is ongoing for improved surgical techniques.
Until a few years ago there were stage II (and sometimes even earlier), no alternative to surgery. Today, there are some new procedures, but its effectiveness should be shown only on a large number of patients need. Therefore, their importance is not yet clear. At the moment, mainly because of improved, improved techniques and the reduction of the complication, there is no other method that can replace TURP as the standard method.

The narrowness of the urethra should be dilated by a balloon.
One of the new procedure, which was tested was the transurethral dilatation. It is an idea drawn from the cardiology, in which a constriction in the urethra is expanded by a balloon. A catheter is placed in the urethra, and filled a balloon in the amount of the bladder neck under severe pressure. The filled balloon dilation or should it lead to the demolition of the corner. This treatment has the advantage that it takes less than half an hour and can be performed without general anesthesia, only local anesthesia. Inappropriate because of the success (improvement in only 25 percent of patients), this method was abandoned, however.
