Sterilization and Reversal

Bookmark and Share
To prevent an unwanted pregnancy can, in addition to the widely used contraceptive methods (condoms, the pill, IUD) can also be chosen sterilization.

Sterilization should be considered as a definitive form of contraception. You must only choose a vasectomy if you are sure that you want no more children.

The male sperm is composed of seminal fluid and sperm cells. Liquid seed is produced in the prostate. When a man is ready to assume the testicles through the vas deferens sperm in this fluid is added. In a vasectomy, the vas deferens is interrupted so that the sperm cells in the prostate could not come.

Ejaculation seems so perfectly normal after surgery, there are just no sperm in the semen.

Treatment

You may have to temporarily (a few days of treatment) stop taking certain medicines. This is usually the case if you take blood-thinning medicines.

The surgery is done under local anesthesia of the scrotum. After anesthesia, two small incisions in the skin over the vas deferens. The vas deferens are cut off and clipped (with a sort of cliff), tied (with a string type) or seared. Often a small piece of the vas deferens removed to see if really the vas deferens was interrupted and not another piece of tissue. At the end of treatment, the wounds attached.

After the treatment you are not immediately sterile. You still continue to use contraception. Because there are still sperm in the range of interruption to urethra. With each ejaculation, part of the seed and keep them there for less. Because nothing wakes the seed will eventually no longer contain sperm. After two months, you must submit a sperm sample at the clinic. If this examination shows that there is no sperm present, the treatment is successful. You do not need additional contraception more use to avoid unwanted pregnancy. To protect against STDs (sexually transmitted disease) you should still use condoms.

Disadvantages and complications

Disadvantages and complications that may occur:

The wounds may be sensitive. This can be an ignition. Antibiotic treatment may be necessary.
There is a blood vessel during the treatment are affected which sometimes bruising can occur, this is in principle always be treated.
At less than 1 in 20 men are in pain for weeks after treatment.
There is a very small chance that the vas deferens grow back together.
Some men get after treatment regret their choice.

Reversal

In some cases the aim is to repair. The success rate depends on several factors:

    fertility prior to sterilization
the length of the removed piece
the number of years since sterilization: the longer ago, the smaller the chance of success
antibodies: Sometimes men do post-process certain substances in the quality of the sperm can affect

After surgery the tissue is approximately three weeks to recover.

Several weeks to months after the recovery operation will be performed (sometimes more), or sperm in the semen present. This is after one year is still the case, the procedure is considered failed.

After a restoration, 3 in 10 men able to conceive.
