The prostate consists of approximately 40 individual glands.
The prostate gland is about the size of a chestnut. It also has the same form. Previously, the prostate has been mistakenly viewed as seed storage. Therefore, it was also called seminal vesicles. But this is wrong. Act as seed storage in the epididymis. The prostate is located below the bladder and is bounded from below by the pelvic floor muscles. From the rear it is on the rectum. Through the intestines, the prostate can be palpated (rectal prostate examination). The prostate consists of approximately 40 individual glands. They are formed by stromal cells, supporting cells and the connective tissue in between the glandular cells. The glands are surrounded by a capsule of connective tissue and immersed in a muscular body. During ejaculation, the muscles of the secretions injected into the ducts. The ducts connecting to the vas deferens to the injection channel, which opens into the urethra. The urethra runs through the center of the prostate.

The secretion of the prostate accounts for a large part of the sperm.
The prostate produces a slightly acidic secretion that makes up a major part of the sperm. It is thin and dull and gives the sperm its characteristic odor. The secretion contains numerous enzymes that act on the uterus, they stimulate. The protein spermine, which is also contained in the prostate secretion, promotes motility and fertilizing capacity of sperm. This protein is also of importance in forensic medicine. Dried semen arises, spermine are formed from the crystals, which are detectable for a long time in the vagina. When rape is a proof. Moreover, even in the prostatic fluid phosphatase, citric acid, cholesterol and zinc are included.
Diseases are not uncommon.
