Narrowed foreskin

At the end of the glans penis. This is very sensitive. There is a thin, stretchy piece of skin covered: the foreskin. The foreskin is at the back of the penis with a kind of 'belt'. The skin looks different in every boy. It ranges from almost no foreskin to a large foreskin in a kind of nozzle.

At birth the foreskin and the glans often totally adhered to. With age, this will loosen. From the age of 4 years, the foreskin in most boys are gently pushed back. When the scrollback not (good) works, do not force it or not. This can hurt and cause cracks in the skin. This causes scarring and may even closer to the skin. In most children, the foreskin will loosen eventually.

A narrowed foreskin is generally caused by a skin disorder. Also, the strap by which the foreskin of the penis is to short.

Possible consequences?

When the foreskin is not (properly) on the head can be pushed back, this should not give problems. However, it can therefore be difficult to clean under the foreskin to be made.

The following symptoms may be caused by a narrowed foreskin:

    When the foreskin urination difficult (the foreskin then steeped in the urine)
    when urine is left between the foreskin and the glans. This is an inflammation of the glans and the skin.
    pain in the glans
    pain when urinating
    lakes with a diminished flow
    when your child urinates often only small amounts

If your child suffers from one or more of these symptoms, you should contact your doctor. The doctor will see what exactly is going on. If necessary, your child will be referred to the urologist.

What is there to do?

First, a cream used for supple skin can make. The cream is 4 weeks long 2 times per day applied to the skin. Then the foreskin gently tried to retreat.
When the foreskin is too tight after 4 weeks, the treatment usually extended for 4 weeks. With this treatment, the skin in most cases sufficiently stretched, so there are no complaints.
When treatment with cream is unsuccessful, surgery is performed. This may be necessary if the skin is very constricted by rigid scar.

When surgery is necessary, there are several possibilities:

    The foreskin is just released.
    The skin is loosened and partially removed.
    The skin is completely removed.
    The strap by which the foreskin is attached, is loosened.

The surgery is done under general anesthesia. After surgery, the penis will look normal. The hospital will inform the operation expanded over the course of events. It also provides advice to take home after the surgery.
